Marian High School is excited to announce Curt Rotter as the new Head Varsity Basketball Coach.
Coach Rotter brings over three decades of coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, and youth levels. His career began in the mid-1980s and includes prominent positions across the state of Michigan. At University of Detroit Jesuit High School, he served as Varsity Head Coach, leading the team to a Central Division Championship and a Class A District Championship—the program's first in decades. He was also named Central Division Coach of the Year during his tenure.
In his nine years as a varsity head coach—including appointments at Bishop Foley Catholic High School and De La Salle Collegiate under Hall of Fame Coach Greg Esler—Rotter accumulated more than 100 wins and played a pivotal role in developing several future collegiate and professional athletes. Notable names include Connor Barwin, Deon Sims, Devon Gardner, George Winn, Daniel Fields, and Jordan Morgan. His coaching résumé also includes a collegiate role at Madonna University under Hall of Fame Coach Bernie Holowicki.
Most recently, Rotter served as Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach at Marian during the 2024–2025 season and has remained actively involved in youth basketball, coaching boys and girls from 4th through 8th grade at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. A lifelong educator and mentor, he brings a deep understanding of player development, program-building, and community engagement.
"I have had wonderful basketball experiences and friendships over the years and look forward to producing more of these cherished memories," said Coach Rotter. "Marian Basketball has an astonishing tradition of success. I have big shoes to fill but look forward to the challenge."
Athletic Director Molly Campbell added, "Coach Rotter is an exceptional leader whose experience, values, and coaching philosophy align perfectly with Marian's mission. He understands how to build a championship program while prioritizing character, discipline, and student development. We are thrilled to have him lead our basketball program into its next chapter."
Coach Rotter is a respected educator who currently teaches mathematics at Brother Rice High School. He lives in the local community with his wife, Angela, and their three children: Grace (Marian '22), Olivia (Marian '27), and Dominic (Brother Rice '29). The Rotter family are active members of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish in Beverly Hills.
Marian High School is confident that under Coach Rotter's leadership, the varsity basketball program will continue to uphold its proud tradition of excellence while fostering a positive, competitive, and values-driven environment for student-athletes.
