Marian Pompon finishes in top-5 at State Finals

February 12, 2023

YPSILANTI (MI) – The George Gervin Game Above Center on the campus of Eastern Michigan University was the site of the Mid American Pompon (MAPP) State Championships, Sunday.

Sixty-one middle school, high school and collegiate teams competed across nine divisions.

Marian competed in the Varsity Class B division in the afternoon session and although their routine exhibited the strongest execution of the year, the team finished fifth in the six-team field.

Freeland High School was the runner-up and Bay City John Glenn, behind a strong performance, was the eventual champion.

While the coaches received their individual scoresheets, total scores will be posted in each division in the days ahead.

"I think we put together our strongest performance of the year," said Marian head coach Alexa Slater. "I'm proud of the work they put in this year."

Although the Mustangs came up short this year at Finals, they have a lot to celebrate. In the fall, the team captured the MAPP High Kick Championship in Saginaw. Just days ago, the team had a strong showing at the Catholic High School League (CHSL) Championship by MAPP state championship third-place team, Divine Child.
