Mustangs advance to MHSAA Team Ski Finals

February 15, 2023

WHITE LAKE, MI – Notre Dame Prep dominated the MHSAA Division 2 ski regional in both the girls and boys' competitions Tuesday at Alpine Valley.

While the Fighting Irish boys' team finished 1-6 overall, earning a perfect score of 21, the Notre Dame Prep girls nearly accomplished the same feat, earning 22 finish points.

The conditions were great for spectators with plenty of sun and temperatures nearing 50 degrees. Although the courses held up well, the runs were slushy and icy in spots, adding to several unfinished runs.

While Marian didn't have their best day on the hill, the Mustangs easily finished second with 113 finish points. Catholic League rival Cranbrook also qualified for MHSAA Finals, finishing in third place (149).

In the slalom event, Emma Borgula was Marian's top racer entering times of 22.28 and 24.61 for an overall time of 46.89 and fifth place overall.

Susie Klein also finished in the slalom top ten among 65 racers with a 10th place finish and a two-run time total of 50.42.

Paige Rawlins finished in 15th place (51.74) and Mirabelle Dawson also entered a scoring time total of 55.90 (27th).

On the giant slalom (GS) side, Borgula once again broke up the Notre Dame Prep party, finishing fourth overall with runs of 18.47 and 20.05 (38.52).

Klein was Marian's second finisher with a strong two-run GS total of 41.10, good enough for 11th overall.

Also scoring for Marian was Stella Lowman (14th - 41.63), and Mirabelle Dawson, who has stepped up big on the varsity late in the season. She finished 27th with a total time of 44.53.

Complete team and individual results are linked in the story above.

Next Tuesday, Marian will compete at Mt. Holly in the overall Southeastern Michigan Ski League Championship beginning at 8:00 a.m.

The JV racers will compete the following day in the final Alpine Valley JV open and then it's on to MHSAA Finals on February 27.

This year, Marian was selected to host the Finals event at Boyne Mountain.
