All-American Sarafa named State Champs! Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year

December 1, 2022

BLOOMFIELD HILLS - Ava Sarafa has enjoyed quite a senior volleyball season. The catalyst for Marian's three-peat as Michigan Division 1 champions, Sarafa became only the 16th player in prep history to eclipse the 5,000-assist mark. The Kentucky commit had 1,359 assists (11.0 per set) as Marian went 49-1 and finished No. 3 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 National Poll.

Named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) first team all-region, Sarafa was also named a consensus first team All-America, earning accolades by AVCA, MaxPreps, PrepVolleyball.com and VolleyballMag.com.

Prior to the State Champs! Michigan Player of the Year recognition, Sarafa narrowly earned a runner-up finish for the Michigan Interscholatic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) "Miss Volleyball" award, given to the states top senior player.

However, several other outlets tabbed the all-state Dream Team member Sarafa as their Michigan Player of the Year including MaxPreps and VolleyballMag.com.

Additionally, PrepVolleyball.com selected Sarafa for the Andi Collins Award. Dating back to 2004, the Andi Collins Award is presented in recognition of the nation's most outstanding senior setter, in honor of the late Mater Dei High School (CA) setter, Andi Collins, who succumbed to a battle with cancer in September of her senior year.

Sarafa is the first winner of the award since it was last presented in 2019.
