Bio
Coach Rotter began his career in the mid-1980s, holding key positions across Michigan. At University of Detroit Jesuit High School, he led the varsity team to a Central Division Championship and a Class A District Championship—the program’s first in decades—earning Central Division Coach of the Year honors.
Over nine years as a varsity head coach, including tenures at Bishop Foley Catholic High School and De La Salle Collegiate under Hall of Fame Coach Greg Esler, Rotter accumulated more than 100 wins and helped develop several athletes who went on to collegiate and professional careers, including Connor Barwin, Deon Sims, Devon Gardner, George Winn, Daniel Fields, and Jordan Morgan.
His coaching experience also includes collegiate basketball at Madonna University under Hall of Fame Coach Bernie Holowicki. Most recently, he served as Marian’s Head Junior Varsity Coach for the 2024–2025 season and continues to coach youth basketball for boys and girls in grades 4–8 at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.
A lifelong educator, Coach Rotter currently teaches mathematics at Brother Rice High School. He lives locally with his wife, Angela, and their three children: Grace (Marian ’22), Olivia (Marian ’27), and Dominic (Brother Rice ’29). The family are active members of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish in Beverly Hills.
“I have had wonderful basketball experiences and friendships over the years and look forward to producing more of these cherished memories,” said Rotter. “Marian Basketball has an astonishing tradition of success. I have big shoes to fill but look forward to the challenge.”
Athletic Director Molly Campbell added, “Coach Rotter is an exceptional leader whose experience, values, and coaching philosophy align perfectly with Marian’s mission. We are thrilled to have him lead our basketball program into its next chapter.”
Under Coach Rotter’s leadership, Marian High School is confident the varsity basketball program will continue to uphold its proud tradition of excellence while fostering a positive, competitive, and values-driven environment for student-athletes.
